To me, fashion and travel always go hand to hand. Sometime it’s hard to tell which I get more excited about: the vacation or the vacation clothes!
I’ve recently returned from an incredible trip to Bali for my best friend’s wedding. We’ve known each other since our undergrad years at Berkeley. She is definitely one of those special people worth traveling halfway around the world to visit… and it helps that Bali is amazing! Between the blue skies, crystal water, warm friends, and fabulous fashion, it was a perfect trip!
We arrived at the Conrad Bali after more than 20 hours of travel. This beautiful, luxury resort sits right on the edge of the Indian Ocean and stuns from the moment you arrive. We had booked a lagoon room where you can jump into the pool directly from your own bedroom - it was even more fun in person! (CE travel tip: my free Hilton membership got me a room discount and free wifi!) We were greeted with a romantic welcome basket that was just the first of so many little luxuries that made this vacation perfect.
We started every day with a relaxing morning swim right outside our bedroom door followed by breakfast on the beach.
The broad, private stretch of sand was lined with private umbrellas and lounge chairs - the perfect spot to chill with your travel pals, a good book, and the bride-to-be!
I’m so glad I brought my Ladies First Lady bug hat to keep the sun away! And of course my sunscreen, book, and tablet fit perfectly in my favorite Cecily Summer bag.
The wedding ceremony took place in the Infinity Chapel. The Conrad Bali calls it “the most iconic in this island” and they must be right. The chapel was a truly a blend of heaven and earth - infinity - the eternity of love.
Have you ever seen such a beautiful bride?
This is the kind of special friendship worth traveling around the world to be able to celebrate!
FYI, all the outfits can be customized ordered from firstname.lastname@example.org for your next vacation getaways.
After the wedding, we traveled to Kiss Villas in Seminyak, a city known for its great boutiques and restaurants. (And you know I can’t resist a great boutique!) The hotel itself was amazing. The staff was so friendly and we even got upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite! For just about $170 a night including free breakfast delivered daily to your villa, I can’t recommend it highly enough!
Our villa had a private pool and I spent the afternoon cooling off, but staying safe with my wide-brimmed Summer Hat. Pure romance!
The outdoor living room was the perfect spot to sip on a local beer and just CHILL.
Breakfast - YUM!
It was hard to leave our little slice of heaven, but when we travel, we think it’s important to get out and see the city the way the locals do: to enjoy the local food, shop, and culture. In Seminyak, we explored small local temples and met many friendly locals who shared with us both their spirituality and their good wishes.
In general, we found the local food in Seminyak to be a little disappointing. If you are looking for some incredible French cuisine, however, make your way to Metis. It was better than some of the French restaurants we’ve been to in the US! Beautiful ambiance, fresh seafood, and the fois gras was to die for!
It was a picture perfect romantic dinner in Bali.
There is so much to see and experience in Bali, but we didn’t want to miss the Ubud Hanging Gardens. Set in the jungle near Payangan, about an hour & a half from Seminyak, the Hanging Gardens resort is known for having one of the Top Ten infinity pools in the world! While we chose to make it a day trip rather than an overnight, we did book a half-day experience to get time to see the jungle, the spa, and the famous twin-tiered pool that Conde Nast recently called “the World’s Best Swimming Pool.”
Our visit began with a ride on the resort’s funicular. Rising up above the lush jungle canopy, we made our way to the pool...
There is nothing between you and the jungle. This is truly Paradise!
Bali may be far away from the US, but well worth the trip. We can’t wait to go back!

If I can offer one last CE Travel Tip, I recommend staying at least one night in a layover location. We stayed in Taipei on our way over and also stayed a few days on the way back enjoy the local food and scenery. We stayed a boutique hotel in the Songshan District called Amba, a hidden gem! The chic, modern vibe was just our style - and inexpensive, too!
And if you’re lucky, you might even catch the Hello kitty flight!
